Electronic Readers include the Kindle, Kindle 2Kindle DX, Sony PRS-505 Reader, Nook by Barnes and Noble, the iLiad by iRex, Cybook by Bookeen, Hanlin by Jinke, BeBook by Endless Ideas, SoriBook by Diginaru and the newest one being brought to market by Polymer Vision called the Readius with it’s paper thin screen and compact size.

The Electronic Reader segment was not always this crowded as it was just 5 years ago the first Electronic Reader was introduced by Sony under the name Librie.  It took almost three years for the technology to really catch on and in 2007 Amazon came to market with the Kindle while Sony debuted a new electronic reader the Sony PRS-5050 the same year.  Both readers share the e-ink technology with 4-level gray scale.  This allows the pages to be written on the screen and the actual words or print remain with out any electricity usage for up to 2,000 page turns.  Truly revolutionary technology that is constantly being improved upon.  Amazon’s Kindle is by far the most popular electronic reader to date with it’s ease of use and wireless updates anywhere a cell phone signal can be found.

The newest Electronic Reader coming into the marketplace is Nook by Barnes and Noble.  Amazon’s Kindle 2 and Kindle DX have a stronghold on the market.  The Kindle DX is a larger version of the Kindle 2 with a bigger display and more storage capacity. For more on both check out the Kindle 2 page or the Kindle DX page.  Kindle DX is available for pre-order @ Amazon.

Upcoming in the electronic newspaper and book reader market is Polymer Vision who will introduce the ‘Readius‘ in the fall of 2009.  The Readius will sell for just under $600 and use a paper thin screen and e-ink technology with 16-level grey scale.  Not only will the Readius have advanced technologies but it will be small in size, so small it will be able to fit in your pocket just as a cell phone does.  The Readius will also use an internal cell phone for updates using the latest 3.5G tri-band connection.
